Residents partake in several outdoor activities in the various lakes and parks in the area and enjoy diverse cuisine from area restaurants. The close-knit community of Mountain Lakes is surrounded by global and U.S. headquarters of some of the world’s most prestigious corporations and within walking distance of the downtown shopping districts.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Mountain Lakes has several restaurants and shops within walking distance. Each restaurant offers a unique menu and an equally satisfying vibe. Hapgoods restaurant has a traditional breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a modern twist. The Station at Mountain Lakes is a 23-year-old restaurant in a historic train station. Owners of The Station describe the overall vibe of the restaurant as similar to the hit T.V. show “Cheers.” They have both indoor and outdoor seating to compensate for the weather and the comfortability of its customers.

Barka Steak & Seafood has a tremendous menu and has been in business for over 20 years. They have a variety of menu items such as Mediterranean cuisine, steak, seafood, pastas, and wood-oven pizza. This restaurant even features a raw bar and hosts small events and parties. Paul’s Family Diner is family-owned and operated and has been in operation for more than 65 years. They offer traditional American cuisine in a family-friendly environment with crayons and coloring books for children. Mountain Lakes Club is a private club that has served its members since 1914. It offers year-round events and dining for its members as well as activities such as swimming, tennis bowling, and boating.

Things to Do

Mountain Lakes is located within walking distance of schools, beaches, parks, public libraries, and churches. Tourne Park is an open park with over eight miles of trails for hiking and biking. Hikers climb to the top of the Tourne for a view of the New York City skyline. Residents use this park for recreation and even small gatherings. There are nearby beaches, playgrounds, and a large display of greenery and beautiful scenery.
 
Ice skating is also a prominent recreational activity in Mountain Lakes. As the lakes freeze in the winter, residents of all ages will venture out to enjoy the brisk weather and some icy fun. The cove in the main lake is usually the first to freeze, so keep an eye on that section of the lake when cold weather comes.

When it comes to shopping and dining, there are lots of options in nearby communities. Downtown in neighboring Denville, find handcrafted goods at The Wren + The Raven, or a classic burger and draft beer at Second Half on Main. Then along Main Street in Boonton, residents can find boutiques like Robin’s Closet and Sinofilia Tea Shop or grab dinner at local favorites  Leyendas de Mexico and Fasil. Also, the city of Morristown is close by for shopping, restaurants, and theater.
